Morehead City Real Estate
With some of the most diverse fishing available along North Carolina's beautiful Crystal Coast, Morehead City has become home to a large charter-fishing fleet. A deep-water port, Morehead City was originally planned by John Motley Morehead, who served as North Carolina's governor from 1841 to 1845, as a large commercial trade center. The Civil War interrupted the city's development as a shipping terminal, but the area's commercial strength as a modern port has grown in recent years.
Morehead City is home to a number of marine research facilities, including the Institute of Marine Sciences and the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries. The city also houses the Ferry Division of the N.C. Department of Transportation and serves as a port for the Second Division of the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune.
For music lovers, the Crystal Coast Jamboree is a must-see event--a two-hour, live musical revue. The History Place in downtown Morehead City preserves the heritage of Carteret County, and offers an extensive Civil War collection. Across the Sound is Fort Macon State Park. The fort was an important site during the Civil War, and is home to Civil War reenactments during the summer. |
